We officially have a place to live! As I sit here on this beautiful Sunday morning listening to the church bells with the windows open (seriously, pinch me!), I figured it would be a good time for an update. We have been busy this week settling into our apartment. We moved in this past Wednesday, and our household goods arrived the same day. Our place is just outside of the city center (about a 7 minute walk) and on the fifth (top) floor of our building. Our movers actually used a lift from the street level to one of our balconies to move all of our boxes and furniture up. I have never seen anything like it! They did an excellent job and we couldn’t be happier having all of our things arrive safely across the world.

Michael volunteered to check off inventory as our things were brought up
Still working our way through the maze of boxes – hoping to finish unpacking today!
The movers finished early in the afternoon and we headed over to grab lunch at a quaint spot across the street called La Cícara. It’s a little lunch spot that has a different seasonal menu daily and a cute little bakery counter. Michael has definitely transitioned well, ordering a glass of vino rosso (red wine) at lunch and a Spritz for aperitivo (Italian happy hour) several times during the week. 😊 I have already decided that I will be stopping on the way home from the hospital for an afternoon Spritz in June. We’ll see if that really happens, ha! For now, I’m happy grabbing gelato while Michael sips his Spritz. We’ve tried a few different gelaterias, but the best, thanks to my friend Josie’s recommendation, is Capo di Latte. Every flavor we have tried has been incredible, but both of our favorite by far has been the limone! Creamy, light, and tangy all at the same time.

He raced home on his bike to grab Spritz and chips across the street on a beautiful 70° evening

We spent this weekend unpacking and exploring downtown. The weather has been such a treat compared to what we are used to in February, in the mid-60s to 70 degrees and sunny every day. I have heard March will be rainy, so we are taking advantage of the beautiful weather for now. On Saturday evening we went to La Proseccheria, a spot known for their Prosecco and cheese boards. Michael had a great big glass of vino rosso (and was sure to swirl it around to make sure I could smell it 🙄) and we split a cheese board. We were quick to sign up for their rewards system (complementary bottles of wine and cheese boards as you accumulate points), as we will definitely be making this a frequent spot! We sat outside and listened to the jazz music playing, soaking in the vibrant downtown weekend environment.

This morning I woke up early and made breakfast. We have cooked a few easy dinners so far since the kitchen is now fully unpacked, but today called for a yummy Sunday breakfast! I’m hoping to have the rest of our boxes unpacked in the next couple of days. I will share pictures of our place once we are fully unpacked, but we are loving it so far, and are definitely feeling “at home” here already and can’t wait to host our family and friends in this beautiful city once travel restrictions are lifted.

Thanks for reading – we miss you all so much!
xx Hannah
